My 9 Favorite Airbnbs From Netflix's "The World's Most Amazing Vacation Rentals"
This past month, I was sick with covid and quickly becoming best friends with my couch. Don’t worry I’m fine now! But I was stuck home quarantining and used it as a chance to work my way through my Netflix list. Although I physically couldn’t go anywhere, my mind was exploring the world as I binge-watched “The World’s Most Amazing Vacation Rentals.”
As of writing, there are 16 episodes across two seasons. The show has three hosts, Jo, Megan, and Luis. Each host focuses on a specific area property attribute: unique (Jo), budget (Megan), and luxury (Luis). The episodes are themed, such as modern stays, eco friendly, and waterfront, and highlights one property from each attribute. This breakdown is really attainable as stays can range from a few hundred dollars to thousands of dollars per night, depending on what you’re looking for.
It took me about two days to go through the series. I would frequently pause an episode to search for a rental online and add it to my wishlist of places to stay. Not all the accommodations highlighted on the show are on Airbnb so I added what I could to my wishlist and then bookmarked the remaining rentals’ websites. If it’s just me and my husband traveling, I’m not usually an Airbnb person when we go on vacation. I feel like I still have to keep house while away and can’t relax whereas in a hotel things are taken care of. I don’t have to cook breakfast or wonder where someone put extra trash bags. But the show and these stays really helped reframe Airbnbs for me. I can see them more as the trip itself and a way to get closer to a city or culture.
Without further ado, here are my nine favorite Airbnb stays from “The World’s Most Amazing Vacation Rentals."
Invisible House Joshua Tree - Skyscraper with Pool Joshua Tree, California, USA

This rental is a work of art. I’m interested in the structure itself but also would love to see the stars from this house. This would be a group splurge stay and I am already thinking of friends who would want to join!
2. Yoshino Cedar House Yoshino-gun, Nara-ken, Japan

I haven’t yet been to Japan. I feel that staying in this house would be incredibly grounding because of the wood and I’d create a unique connection to the surrounding community.
3. Casa Xixim: Magical EcoLuxe Beachfront Villa Tulum, Quintana Roo, Mexico

I love the minimalist luxury of this rental. The full staff and amenities provided by Casa Xixim would make me forget it’s not a hotel! Staying here would be a real mental vacation.
4. Wonder Haus “World’s Most Amazing Vacation Rental” Pagosa Springs, Colorado, USA

This eco-friendly stay completely drew me in. Are you sensing a theme with my picks? According to the listing, this rental is a passive solar earth home and even comes with a star-gazing observation tower. Sign me up!

6. The Outlaw: Pioneertown Pioneertown, California, United States

A whole town to yourself! I feel like this would be an incredibly memorable group trip. I’m not too familiar with westerns or western life, but the best way to learn is to immerse myself in it. Who’s coming with me?
7. Firefly Eco Lodge Bamboo birdsnest level 4 Ubud, Bali, Indonesia

I love that this stay is adventurous and located in the middle of rice fields. The views from the room look incredible and the lodge honors the nature around it.
8. ✰ Camaya Bali Butterfly - Magical Bamboo House ✰ Selat, Bali, Indonesia

This bamboo house is gorgeous! It looks inviting and fun. It’s remote and also in a rice field, but would be a special way to take a break from the city life and explore.
9. Come & Dream in Quetzalcoatl`s Nest Naucalpan de Juárez, Estado de México, Mexico

Look at this design!! If someone told me they slept in the belly of a snake, I’d think it was a fable. This rental is in the shape of a snake and adorned in colorful mosaic. There are plenty of gardens to explore. Perfect for sitting outside with a good book.
