Solid Sunscreen Sticks are the Travel Essential You Didn't Know You Needed

In middle and high school, I remember swimming at my friend Sydney’s house. Before we would jump in the pool, her mom would take down all the sunscreen. Their stash was the best! It was a solid, zinc based sunscreen and came in a variety of colors like blue and pink. As it was a mineral base, it took a couple minutes to rub in and after that we were good. But honestly, it was fun having the color as SPF face paint.

Shortly thereafter, spray sunscreen grew in popularity and it was all anyone used. Gone were the days of slathering on lotion. Hello to the ease of pressing a button and sheer sun protection covered your body. Plus your hands weren’t greasy! Who wouldn’t want this?!

But solid sunscreen stayed quietly in the background. I recently ordered the Bare Republic Mineral Sunscreen & Sunblock Face Stick and really like it! I’ve used their sunscreens before and love that they’re mineral based but they would go on so thick. This one is different.

With a sunscreen stick, I can:

  • throw it in my bag and not worry about it exploding.

  • free up space in a liquid quart size bag.

  • carry it with me for regular, local outings - such as a farmers market or walking with friends.

  • keep my hands clean during application!

This one goes on sheer but I do notice that if I have a wet spot on my skin, it’ll show up a with a minor white cast. It says it’s for the face, though I apply it on my face, ears, neck, shoulders and arms.
