Movie dubbing

Within the camp there are competitions: movie dubbing, speech, singing and drama. Movie dubbing is week one and the others take place during weeks two and three.

Movie dubbing is straight forward. The students get in small groups and pick a clip to a movie. They then dub it with their own voices with the words to the movie or a new script.

The point of this is to get the students to better understand the English inflection, emotion and rhythm. Movies included Kung Fu Panda, Rio, 3 Idiots, Forrest Gump and Toy Story. The group who picked Toy Story won. They were the only group who made their own script. It was to the opening eight minutes and revolved around the camp. So Woody would shout, “Andy’s going to English Summer Camp!” They even added in their own sound effects to the movie, like when Woody slides down the stair banister and slams into a post, the new sound was BOOM!

We were ALL laughing to the point of tears :)
